Iran Reports Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Counterattacks.

Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing offensive against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted areas linked to the the regime, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with high efficiency and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.

The statement noted wreckage fell on a populated district in the capital, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
