A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a nation battling persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the 40-year-old presenter was accosted by a trio of assailants, one of whom shot at him before escaping on foot.

The purpose of the attack has not been established and no one has been arrested have taken place, police said.

Details of the Attack

Authorities said that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a premises near the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the building supervising the implementation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, it was reported.

"Authorities believe the man was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," an official report confirmed.

Surveillance tape showed a suspect with dreadlocks and wearing what appeared to be a guard's attire shooting on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries across the street.

Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the attack.

Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were found at the scene.

Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have have information to contact them.

"We know they walked a long distance after the shooting, and investigators have been following their trail to establish their whereabouts," remarked an authority figure.

His sister, Nicole Stock, stated the loved ones are reeling to process his death.

"I am devastated. I am shattered," she stated.
"It is clear he was a voice for many people. He spoke out bravely about subjects not many people were prepared to speak about. This is a devastating blow."

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that aired on a popular local digital satellite entertainment channel.
