The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by real players award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers looking for different methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while another details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
